Oxford New Theatre – Gilbert And Sullivan Opera – 1931
An original theatre programme for Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers, presented by the D’oyly Carte Opera Company at the New Theatre, Oxford, on 11 May 1931.
The comic opera follows two Venetian gondoliers, one of whom is secretly heir to the throne of the imaginary kingdom of Barataria.
D’Oyly Carte touring programmes are keenly collected by Savoyards, and this inter-war example makes a fine addition to any collection of old theatre programmes.
