A programme from the Ashcroft Theatre, London, dated 6 October 1970, for George Farquhar’s Restoration comedy The Recruiting Officer, with Ian McKellen, Trevor Peacock, Carol Macready and John Woodnutt.
Set in Shrewsbury, the play follows the dashing Captain Plume and the scheming Sergeant Kite as they enlist recruits and pursue romance, while Silvia disguises herself as a man to win Plume.
An early 1970s appearance by Ian McKellen makes this a fine theatre programme for collectors of classical theatre.
