Chichester Festival Theatre – The Workhouse Donkey – 1963 Jacobi
An original theatre programme for John Arden’s The Workhouse Donkey at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 1963. The cast included Dudley Foster, Fay Crompton, a young Derek Jacobi, Mary Miller, Jean Rogers and Jeanette Landis.
Arden’s boisterous satire of municipal politics and corruption in a northern town is subtitled a vulgar melodrama.
Programmes from Chichester’s earliest seasons are keenly collected theatre memorabilia, and this one features Jacobi near the start of his career.
