Israel Jerusalem – Arms And The Man – 1947 – Dramatic Society
An original theatre programme for George Bernard Shaw’s Arms And The Man, presented by the Jerusalem Dramatic Society at the YMCA, Jerusalem, on 20 December 1947.
The cast includes Heather Summers, Phyllis White, Ziona Caspi and David O’Cock. Shaw’s comedy pokes fun at romantic ideas of war through the ‘chocolate cream soldier’ Captain Bluntschli.
Programmes from amateur English-language theatre overseas are unusual survivors, and this is a fascinating piece of theatre memorabilia from a momentous time in Jerusalem’s history.
