London Sadler Wells Theatre – Rakes Progress 1936 Margot Fonteyn

An original Vic Wells Ballet programme from Sadler Wells Theatre, London, dated 14 January 1936, featuring The Rake’s Progress.

The company includes a very young Margot Fonteyn, Elizabeth Miller, Robert Helpmann, Leslie Edwards and John Byron. Ninette de Valois’ ballet, inspired by Hogarth’s famous paintings, was created for the company in 1935.

An early programme from Fonteyn’s first years as a ballerina is a treasured piece of ballet and theatre memorabilia and a rare example of old theatre programmes from the 1930s.
