Stratford Theatre Royal – Mephisto – 1887

An original theatre programme for Mephisto at the Theatre Royal, Stratford, dated 10 January 1887, with principal cast including Joseph Ellis and Dolly Harmer.

Inspired by the Faust legend and its devilish tempter Mephistopheles, it is typical of the lively entertainments offered to East London audiences in the theatre’s early years.

An early programme from a theatre that would later become world famous, and a superb find for collectors of old theatre programmes.
