London Shoreditch New Town Hall – A Soiree – 1869 – Rare 1800's
A very rare concert programme for a Soiree of overtures and opera at Shoreditch New Town Hall, Hackney, London, dated 20 January 1869, held to celebrate the triumphant return of Charles Reed.
Performers include glee singing by the Botolph Choral Society, Mr Esmonde, George Dawson, Mr H Thomas and Mr R Pringle. Charles Reed was elected MP for Hackney in the 1868 general election.
Mid-Victorian programmes like this are rare survivors, and an exciting find among old theatre programmes and London social history.
