An original programme for the farce The Private Secretary at the Royal Globe Theatre, London, dated 11 October 1884. The cast included A Beaumont, Vane Featherston, Leigh Murray, Julian Cross, A Andrews and W Penley.
Charles Hawtrey adapted the play from the German comedy Der Bibliothekar by Gustav von Moser, and after a shaky start it became one of the great comic hits of the Victorian stage.
A classic farce and a fine example of 1880s old theatre programmes.
