London Adelphi Theatre – A Midsummer Night's Dream – 1890
An original Victorian theatre programme for Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Adelphi Theatre, London, from circa 1890.
The cast included Alfred Brydone, Caleb Porter, Herbert Grimwood, Carmen Woods, May Martin and Ethel James.
Victorian productions of the play were often lavish spectacles, with elaborate fairy scenes and Mendelssohn’s famous incidental music. A lovely Shakespearean survivor and a fine example of old theatre programmes from the Strand.
