London Old Vic Theatre – Madam Butterfly – 1932
An original theatre programme for Madam Butterfly at the Old Vic Theatre, London, dated 29/09/1932. The cast included Isabel Rhys Parker, Wilma Berkeley, Rose Morris, Henry Wendon, Sumner Austin and Nora Sabini.
Puccini’s tragic opera of a Japanese geisha and an American naval officer was a staple of the popular opera seasons presented in English under Lilian Baylis.
A pre-war opera programme from one of London’s most historic theatres, this is a fine example of old theatre programmes from the 1930s.
