An original theatre programme for Shakespeare’s The Merchant Of Venice at Kelly’s Theatre, Liverpool, dated 30 October 1911. The cast included Alexander Marsh, Ian Flemming, Edward Evans, Margaret Vaughn, Dora Mason and Carrie Baillie. Shakespeare’s comedy of Antonio, Bassanio, Portia and the moneylender Shylock was a mainstay of the touring Shakespeare companies that visited regional theatres in this period. Programmes over a century old are scarce, making this a lovely example of old theatre programmes from Liverpool.
