London Hampstead Home Hospital Philothespian Club Theatre – 1888
An original single page theatre programme for A Dramatic Performance! by the Philothespian Club in aid of the Hampstead Home Hospital and Nursing Institute, dated 9 June 1888.
The performance was given at St George’s Hall, Langham Place, and the sheet has a short letter to the reverse; it measures 8” x 5”.
Amateur dramatic clubs often staged charity performances like this to raise money for hospitals in the days before the NHS. A charming piece of Victorian theatre memorabilia linking the stage with London social history.
