London St James's Theatre – The Queen's Shilling – 1879
An original programme for The Queen’s Shilling at the St James’s Theatre, London, in 1879. The principal cast includes Mr Hare, Mr Kendal, Gaston Murray and Kate Phillips.
The Queen’s Shilling was G.W. Godfrey’s comedy adapted from the French, and it was the production with which John Hare and W.H. Kendal opened their famous joint management of the theatre.
A programme naming Hare and Kendal themselves in the cast is a lovely survival from the late Victorian stage and a highlight among old theatre programmes.
