Nottingham Repertory Theatre – Hindle Wakes – 1943

A wartime theatre programme for Hindle Wakes at the Nottingham Repertory Theatre, dated 30 August 1943. The cast included Barbara Cavan, Wilf Gilbert, Barbara Miller and June Spencer.

Stanley Houghton’s Lancashire drama caused a stir with its mill girl heroine Fanny Hawthorn, who refuses to marry the mill owner’s son after a weekend away together.

Repertory programmes from the war years are increasingly hard to find, making this a rewarding piece for collectors of old theatre programmes.
